371. Deputy Eamon Scanlon asked the Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport if his Department provides funding supports for independent artists who are invited to present their work at international conferences (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3115/26]
Amharc ar fhreagraCulture Ireland operates within my Department to support professional Irish artists in presenting and promoting their work to audiences around the world. The Department provides funding to professional Irish artists to present work at key international venues and events within their field, with grants primarily assisting with travel and travel-related costs. Funding to attend workshops or conferences are not eligible under current eligibility criteria.
Creative Ireland also sits within my Department. Creative Ireland’s Health and Wellbeing funding is delivered through initiatives and projects co-ordinated via the network of 31 Local Authorities across the country. No application has been made to Creative Ireland to fund the activity highlighted by the Deputy. Creative Ireland focuses on facilitating participation in creative and cultural activity rather than support for individual artists.
