211. Deputy Paul Donnelly asked the Minister for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration the status of the legislation needed to allow An Garda Síochána to use drones as part of their operations. [6164/26]
Amharc ar fhreagraThe use of recording devices by An Garda Síochána, including those that are mounted on unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) is provided for under Part 2 of the Garda Síochána (Recording Devices) Act 2023.
It should be noted that there is a requirement under the Act for the Garda Commissioner to develop a Code of Practice which will set out the procedures and standards to be followed, as well as the new rules around confidentiality, security, storage, access and retention of data and data subject rights. I am advised by the Garda authorities that work is ongoing with respect to the development of this Code of Practice.
No identified need for additional legislation has been communicated to my Department, however, officials in my Department will consider any such request if received from An Garda Síochána.
