Ireland will hold the Presidency of the Council of the European Union for the eighth time from 1 July to 31 December 2026. This will be an important opportunity for Ireland to lead and shape the European agenda.

Preparations are underway to deliver a successful Presidency in the Youth area.

Our work will be focused on progressing development of the next EU Youth Strategy, the hosting of the EU Youth conference and the Directors General for Youth meeting, and on advancing Council texts under youth goal 4, Information and Constructive Dialogue. We will work closely with our Trio partners, Lithuania and Greece, on delivering meaningful outcomes under this youth goal. Work in this area will be informed by consultation with young people.

Our policy programme will be finalised and published in June 2026, shortly before the start of our Presidency term.
