Dáil Éireann Debate, Thursday - 12 February 2026
480. Deputy John Clendennen asked the Minister for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration the number and location of Garda stations across the State that are designated as training stations for trainee members of An Garda Síochána; the number of trainees currently assigned to each such station; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11544/26]
Amharc ar fhreagraThe Garda Commissioner is responsible under Section 33 of the Policing, Security and Community Safety Act 2024 for all operational policing matters, including the distribution and deployment of probationer Gardaí to Garda stations across the State.
I an informed by Garda authorities that there are currently 97 training stations nationally. I have attached a file with a breakdown of these designated stations by location with numbers of allocated probationer (attested) and trainee Gardaí (pre-attestation).
Since 2022, the Garda Trainee and Probationer Programme comprises a total of 106 weeks. Trainee Gardai undergo 36 weeks of training, 24 of which are based in Templemore and 12 of which are in training stations. Once they have attested, probationer Gardai spend a further total 70 weeks in training stations.
For the Deputy’s information, An Garda Síochána publish information in relation to the allocation of probationer Gardaí by Division and training station which can be found at the following link:
www.garda.ie/en/about-us/our-departments/human-resources-and-people-development/garda-hr-directorate/garda-strength-breakdown-2025/garda-strength-breakdown-2025.html
The Deputy should select December 2025 for the most up to date data available, and then select the file titled ‘Allocation of Probationer Gardai by Division and Station 2015 to December 2025’.
