Launched in 2022, the Town Centre First (TCF) Policy is a major cross-government policy that aims to tackle vacancy, combat dereliction and breathe new life into our town centres. The policy supports the Our Rural Future vision for a thriving rural Ireland which is integral to our national economic, social, cultural and environmental wellbeing and development.
My Department launched a dedicated Town Centre First Suite of Supports in 2024. This included funding awarded to towns and villages for the development of a second phase of 26 TCF Town Plans. As part of this, €30,000 was allocated to support the completion of a town plan for Kenmare in Co. Kerry.
TCF Town Plans are community-based plans that are produced by a local Town Team, with the support and leadership of Town Regeneration Officers. They help set out a vision and identify regeneration opportunities, direct investment and maximise the unique strengths and assets of their town.
The development of the Kenmare TCF Town Plan was led by the Town Regeneration Officer in Kerry County Council, who worked with Kenmare Town Team to complete the plan. This work is now complete and the TCF Town Plan for Kenmare is publicly available to view on the Kerry County Council website.
