83. Deputy Cathal Crowe asked the Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment to give a update on the MMC Agrément Team plans; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29196/26]
Amharc ar fhreagraNSAI is an independent State Agency and was established as an independent statutory body in 1997 under the National Standards Authority of Ireland Act of 1996. NSAI Agrément is Ireland’s nominated body to issue European Organization of Technical Approvals and is a full member of EOTA, the European Technical Approvals. The purpose of Agrément Certification is to raise standards in the building industry particularly in respect of innovative products.
In 2025 the NSAI launched an MMC toolkit to provide clear pathways to help businesses get the necessary certification for their innovative building systems. The MMC toolkit offers a range of critical resources, including details about certification; FAQs on documentation, timelines and costs; Agrément application forms; and information about industry organisations. It also includes a self-assessment questionnaire?to help firms determine if they are ready to apply for NSAI certification.
Furthermore, funding of €100,000 has been approved under the Housing Implementation Fund to carry out a root cause analysis to identify constraints on the Agrément certification process in 2026. The Terms of Reference have recently been finalised by my Department.
I have been advised that over the course of this year, the MMC business unit within NSAI, will continue to develop its core activities of certification and audit processes; promote the MMC toolkit; participate in the independent review of the MMC certification process; progress those actions assigned to the NSAI under the MMC Action Plan published in June 2025 that focusses on skills required within the sector and engage with key stakeholders.
