The Employment Permits System is administered in accordance with the Employment Permits Act, which provides the statutory framework governing the processing of employment permit applications, including provisions relating to fees and refunds.

In the case referred to by the Deputy, the applicant was informed on 25 February 2026 that, where a fee had been paid, a refund of 90% of that fee could be requested via the Employment Permits Online System, following which the application would be closed.

I am informed by the Department that, to date, no request for a refund has been received through the prescribed portal from either the applicant or the prospective employer. Should such a request be submitted, it will be considered in accordance with the provisions of the legislation, including the granting of a 90% refund, where applicable.
