Deputy Malcolm Byrne asked the Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport to provide the amounts by which his Department or agencies within the aegis of his Department that has been defrauded as a result of a cyberattack; and the total amount which has been recovered for each of the years 2021 to 2025, and to date in 2026. Amharc ar fhreagraThrough the effective use of advanced technology and continual staff training my Department utilises a layered approach to cybersecurity. In addition to this the Department is in close contact with the National Cyber Security Centre who offer guidance and instruction regarding emerging threats and the ever changing cybersecurity landscape. Cybersecurity in respect of the bodies under the aegis of the Department is a matter for those bodies.
For the information of the Deputy, the Department is aware of a fraud which occurred in a service provider in receipt of grand funding during 2025. This case is still under investigation by the appropriate authorities and the Department awaits the outcome.
